Daily Card: 136% Bankroll After the First NCAAF Learning Day
Yesterday We Explored. Today We Recalibrate.
Saturday finished 4-5 across the first truly multi-sport BrownBagBets card of the season. The standardized August bankroll moves modestly lower to approximately 136% and remains well above its opening baseline. NCAAF produced its first six pieces of live 2026 evidence, MLB remained profitable despite a 1-1 record, and EPL moved to 4-2. Sunday contracts sharply: only three positions earn permission and just 6% of bankroll is deployed.
August 29 Review
The First NCAAF Evidence Is Now Real.
Saturday Results
The complete portfolio finished 4-5. MLB split 1-1 but remained profitable because the larger 3% Sandy Alcantara pitcher-outs position won. NCAAF opened 3-3 across six intentionally small positions. EPL finished 0-1.
Why the 1% Rule Mattered
Saturday was the first NCAAF live sample of 2026.
Six separate positions produced three wins and three losses.
Because every position began at only 1%, BrownBagBets acquired new information without allowing early-season uncertainty to dominate the existing portfolio.
What NCAAF Taught Us
Six Outcomes Become Six New Research Inputs.
The Questions Begin Now
Which indicators behaved as expected? Which winning wagers may have succeeded for reasons unrelated to the original thesis? Which losing wagers still contained useful information? How did quarterback continuity, roster readiness, expected game shape and market positioning actually behave once the games became real?
Those questions matter more than trying to declare the first 3-3 sample either successful or unsuccessful.
Major League Baseball
Two Positions. Four Percent.
Los Angeles Dodgers at Detroit Tigers
Detroit receives run protection after beating Los Angeles on Saturday. The Dodgers conclude a difficult six-game road trip Sunday with Tyler Glasnow now officially listed opposite Framber Valdez.
The +1.5 structure allows BrownBagBets to oppose the road favorite without requiring Detroit to repeat Saturday's outright victory.
Los Angeles remains the substantially stronger team and Glasnow enters with a 3.02 ERA. This is not an argument that Detroit owns the superior complete profile. The wager depends on the value of receiving 1.5 runs at a manageable price.
Chicago White Sox at Minnesota Twins
Minnesota is attempting to avoid a divisional sweep behind Zebby Matthews. The current White Sox roster has hit only .159 against Matthews across the available career sample, creating a meaningful matchup-specific argument despite Chicago's stronger overall season.
Matthews enters 8-8 with a 4.86 ERA and faces Jordan Hicks. The captured -119 price is consistent with the current market.
Chicago enters with the substantially stronger season record while Minnesota has been moving in the wrong direction. The wager asks a game-specific pitching matchup to overcome the broader team trend, which is why the allocation remains 2%.
English Premier League
A Simpler Expression of the Goal Environment.
Brighton & Hove Albion at Chelsea
Chelsea's rebuilt attack has already shown scoring capability, while Brighton enters with attacking momentum of its own. The underlying thesis is less about predicting which side wins and more about expecting the match to expand into a three-goal environment.
Using the simple Over also avoids requiring both teams to score. A 3-0, 2-1, 1-2 or 0-3 result can all settle the wager successfully.
At -165, the market already expects goals. The break-even requirement is approximately 62.3% before sportsbook hold. Strong football reasoning therefore still requires price discipline.
Portfolio Construction
Yesterday Had Nine Positions. Today Has Three.
Today's Allocation
Yesterday Does Not Create Today's Quota
Saturday produced nine qualifying positions because the evidence created nine decisions worth considering.
Sunday produces only three.
There is no requirement that the portfolio remain equally active from one day to another, and there is no requirement that NCAAF appear simply because the season has started.
Research determines participation. The calendar does not.
