Sports betting needs a decision system. Not more predictions.
BrownBagBets approaches sports betting as a structured decision and portfolio activity. We review markets, build evidence, challenge the original case, evaluate price, allocate a defined percentage of capital and leave the finished decision in a public record. The objective is not maximum action. It is better participation.
See the decisions before the outcomes.
Every official position is published with its market, price, percentage allocation and research case. The decision exists publicly before settlement.

Pattern Literacy organizes evidence, value, confidence, uncertainty, price, allocation and calibration into one operating framework.

View the Performance LedgerThe wager is the output. The decision is the product.
Interpret signals in context.
Market movement, public positioning, game conditions and matchup information become useful only when the mechanism behind the signal survives scrutiny.
Build cases from convergence.
One interesting signal rarely controls the decision. Independent supporting indicators can strengthen a case while conflicting evidence can weaken it.
The number can invalidate the idea.
BrownBagBets separates liking a team, player or market from being willing to participate at the currently available price.
Evaluate the decision after publication.
Closing line value adds information about whether the market later moved toward or away from the price BrownBagBets accepted.
Control exposure across the card.
Percentage allocation reflects evidence quality, uncertainty and correlation rather than treating every approved wager as interchangeable.
Profit. Withdraw. Reset.
Completed profitable overage leaves the betting environment. The next calendar month begins again from a clean standardized 100% bankroll.
The entire slate can be reviewed. The final card can still be small.
BrownBagBets increasingly uses structured full slate scanning in major research environments. The purpose is not to produce more bets. It is to reduce the chance that the best available case is missed while preserving the right to reject almost everything.
The results stay after the month ends.
Through August 31, 2026, BrownBagBets has published 1,729 official settled positions. August closed 63-40 with a 61.2% win rate and a 135% standardized closing bankroll. The +35% profitable overage was removed before September began again from 100%.
One portfolio. Three live research environments.
Sport records help evaluate individual research environments. The governing portfolio record remains the complete accounting result.
Profit leaves the betting environment.
Each profitable month below closed above its standardized 100% starting bankroll. The overage was then separated before the next monthly cycle began.
The seven percentages add to 173 percentage points. Because the monthly bankroll resets after each completed cycle, BrownBagBets does not describe 173% as a compounded return.
Put a $10,000 bankroll behind the framework.
The standardized bankroll is the maximum monthly risk pool and allocation reference. It is not placed at risk all at once. With a $10,000 bankroll, a 1% position is $100, 2% is $200 and 3% is $300.
Seven profitable cycles, translated into dollars.
If each completed monthly cycle uses the same illustrative $10,000 standardized starting bankroll, the seven completed distributions would total $17,300 removed from the betting environment.
Betting volume can create a separate economic benefit.
Assume a sportsbook awards 10 tier credits for every $100 wagered and each credit has an illustrative value of $1. If every one of the 1,729 published positions had been only the minimum 1% allocation on a $10,000 bankroll, the math would begin here:
The result closes the wager. It does not end the work.
BrownBagBets uses completed positions to evaluate the evidence behind them. The August after action review provides an example of how winning, losing and closing line results feed back into the research system.
Starting Pitcher Current Condition
37-23August's strongest high frequency MLB indicator and the clearest evidence that current form deserved continued weight in the research process.
Expected Game Shape
23-8Strong supporting evidence when the expected structure of the game aligned with the proposed position.
Market Positioning & Price Behavior
13-6Particularly notable because the accepted prices frequently compared favorably with the market at close.
Bullpen Availability & Quality
16-8Useful MLB supporting evidence that remained productive during the August sample.
Lineup Matchup Advantage
12-13More useful as confirmation inside a larger case than as a primary independent reason to participate.
Starting Pitcher Matchup Fit
11-10Stronger when paired with current condition than when treated as a standalone research signal.
Transparency changes the standard of the decision.
A public system cannot simply remember its best outcomes. BrownBagBets is built so that the thesis, price, allocation, result and later interpretation can remain open to inspection.
Decisions exist before results.
Official positions are published before settlement, reducing the ability to reconstruct a cleaner story after the game is over.
Losses remain part of the record.
Losing positions, losing cycles and indicators that weaken under review remain relevant evidence rather than disappearing from the narrative.
Corrections remain visible.
Historical classification questions and material reconciliations are disclosed rather than silently overwritten.
Price matters after the pick.
Closing line review helps separate a lucky outcome from a decision that also captured a favorable market price.
Different sports remain separate.
A strong result in one research environment does not automatically establish the same evidence quality in another.
The next wager starts at zero.
Prior success does not create permission for new capital. Every proposed position has to earn participation independently.
A bankroll should contain only capital that can be exposed without affecting essential living expenses, emergency savings, debt obligations or family needs. Chasing losses, borrowing to wager or increasing exposure because an outcome feels due are incompatible with the BrownBagBets framework.
Research before participation. Selective output. Public accountability.
The Daily Card shows the decisions. Pattern Literacy explains the operating framework. The Performance Ledger preserves what actually happened. Together they form one public decision intelligence system for sports bettors.
