172 Decisions Later. We're Back at 100%.

Sunday closed 9-7, with one push excluded from the official win-loss record.

MLB finished 3-0 on the final day of the regular season. The NFL portion finished 6-7.

The standardized September bankroll moves from 101% to 100%.

And if we stop standardizing it and look at the actual BrownBagBets investment account?

We are $1 above where September started.

Think about everything that had to happen to arrive there.

Hundreds of individual decisions. Large Saturdays. Large Sundays. Three-play cards. Football. Baseball. Soccer. Injuries. Voids. Pushes. Plus-money prices. Heavy favorites. Run lines. Props. Totals.

And after all that movement, the principal is essentially untouched.

That does not make September successful yet. There are still three betting days remaining.

But it does create one of the most interesting lessons of the month: volume has economic value beyond the final bankroll number when the principal survives it.

Sunday Result 9-7 One push excluded · MLB 3-0 · NFL 6-7
September Bankroll 100% Actual account approximately +$1
September Record 98-74 172 settled decisions · 57.0%
Monday Card 5% 2 positions · Monday Night Football
Three betting days remain. We are effectively back at starting capital. Monday Night Football arrives tonight. The MLB postseason begins next. And the sport where our completed-season data is strongest is about to enter the part of the calendar where market expression may matter even more.
September Volume

Break even does not mean nothing happened.

Through Sunday we have recorded 172 settled decisions, plus Sunday's push. That is an extraordinary amount of market participation for an account sitting essentially exactly where it started.

Settled Decisions 172

Wins and losses included in the official September record.

Win Rate 57.0%

98 wins against 74 losses through Sunday.

Actual Account +$1

Effectively unchanged from the beginning of September.

The Hidden Return on Volume

The bankroll is flat. The wagering activity was not.

Sportsbook loyalty programs generally reward eligible wagering handle, not simply whether the final month was profitable.

At the Caesars earning rate we currently experience of approximately 10 Reward Credits for every $100 of eligible wagering, every qualified dollar that passed through the account potentially produced secondary loyalty value.

The exact September credit total depends on the actual eligible dollar handle and Caesars' applicable earning rules. The calculation is simple:

Eligible Handle ÷ $100 × 10 = estimated Reward Credits.

For perspective only, if 173 wagered positions had averaged $150 apiece, that would represent roughly $25,950 of handle and approximately 2,595 Reward Credits, assuming every wager qualified.

That is not a reason to place an additional wager. It is a consequence of wagers that already earned permission.

The interesting outcome is not “we bet a lot and made nothing.” It is that we moved substantial eligible volume while preserving essentially all of the underlying capital.

The reward system never creates the bet. The qualified bet creates the potential reward. That order remains non-negotiable.
September Ledger

Three days left. Exactly at reset.

MLB 49-35 58.3%
NCAA Football 25-15 62.5%
NFL 22-23 48.9%
English Premier League 2-1 66.7%
TOTAL 98-74 57.0%

The push remains outside the win-loss denominator. The standardized bankroll is 100%.

The actual BrownBagBets investment account is effectively identical to where it began September.

MLB Regular Season · Closed

The baseball season did more than give us a record. It started defining our identity.

The regular season ended Sunday. That means we now have something more valuable than another running sample: a completed MLB season of BrownBagBets decisions to interrogate.

First Look · Full Season Review

96-69 is interesting. What produced it is more important.

Across the completed MLB dataset, BrownBagBets finished 96-69, a 58.2% decision win rate.

But the strongest conclusion is not simply the record.

The data is beginning to tell us what kind of baseball bettor BrownBagBets should be.

We appear strongest when the handicap identifies a real baseball mechanism and then expresses it through the shortest, cleanest market available.

Where we tended to give value back was often the opposite: adding unnecessary margin requirements, selecting narrow hitter outcomes, paying excessive juice, or allowing several statistics that were really describing the same causal idea to create false confidence.

Moneyline 56-34

62.2% win rate. Clean ROI sample approximately +10.8%.

Run Line 12-12

50.0% win rate. Approximately -17.5% ROI.

That gap matters enormously entering October.

A large amount of our handicapping correctly answered: which team has the superior baseball environment tonight?

Where the expression sometimes failed was adding another requirement: therefore they will win by two or more.

Those are different propositions.

And in October, with elite relievers, aggressive bullpen deployment, shorter managerial hooks and an increased likelihood of tight games, we expect that distinction to become even more important.

Early playoff operating rule: if the thesis is team superiority, default toward the moneyline. Only add the -1.5 requirement when the actual mechanism predicts separation.

The mechanisms are improving. Permission is the next frontier.

What Week 3 Added

Some of our newest concepts worked exactly as designed. Now we need to become harder to convince.

The encouraging developments include price discipline on Jets +7, market expression on the Jets team total, injury and price interaction in Arizona, and personnel configuration in Indianapolis.

Those are exactly the kinds of ideas we have been trying to make explicit inside NFL SCAN.

The next improvement is not necessarily finding more mechanisms. It is improving permission.

We are still occasionally too willing to take a credible football argument and turn it into a TRACK-level wager without testing the selected team's own offensive floor, turnover fragility, or whether a different market gives us a cleaner expression of the same information.

That becomes especially relevant tonight. Chicago's quarterback environment gives us a compelling Eagles case. But the strongest wager is not simply: backup quarterback equals fade.

The entire interaction still has to work.

There is almost nothing else on today's board.

That is completely fine.

The MLB regular season is over. The postseason begins next. And tonight's Eagles-Bears matchup produced only two positions worth publishing.

Chicago's quarterback problem matters because Philadelphia has a defense capable of making it matter.

Philadelphia Eagles -3

The easiest version of tonight's argument would be: Chicago is starting a third-string quarterback, so bet Philadelphia.

That is not enough for us.

The useful information is the interaction.

Case Keenum is 38 years old and has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game since 2023. Tyson Bagent is available but returns from a concussion. Either way, Chicago enters with a materially degraded quarterback environment.

Now put that against Vic Fangio's Philadelphia defense.

That is where the information becomes actionable. The Eagles have a credible structure for compressing the field, forcing the quarterback to process underneath coverage and making Chicago sustain drives rather than generating easy explosive offense.

Philadelphia also has a motivational football correction available from last season. Chicago ran for 281 yards in its 24-15 win over the Eagles last November. That result is not itself predictive, but it gives Philadelphia's defensive staff a very specific failure mode to address.

Offensively, Philadelphia's line had struggled early in the season, but the unit showed meaningful improvement during last week's game-winning 65-yard touchdown drive at Tennessee.

The weather removes another potential source of variance: roughly 66 degrees, little wind and no expected rain.

The BrownBagBets case is not simply a backup-quarterback fade. It is degraded Chicago Passing Game Function meeting a Philadelphia defense capable of exploiting it, while the Eagles' own offensive line showed evidence of improved current function.

Strongest Contradiction

Chicago owns the league's No. 1 rushing attack in the supplied early-season data. If the Bears can stay ahead of the chains and protect Keenum from obvious passing downs, they can reduce the exact advantage we are trying to exploit.

That is why Philadelphia's ability to control Chicago's rushing game is a major part of the permission test.

Luther Burden III Over 33.5 Receiving Yards

Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears
Recorded At Entry -120

This position looks contradictory beside Eagles -3 only if we assume the Philadelphia thesis requires Chicago's passing game to produce nothing.

It does not.

If Keenum starts, we expect Chicago's passing operation to become shorter and more conservative. That can actually concentrate opportunities toward the middle of the field.

And that is where Luther Burden becomes interesting.

Philadelphia has shown vulnerability in the intermediate middle. Last week, two Washington slot receivers each reached at least 40 receiving yards in the supplied matchup review.

Burden gives Chicago its most credible way to exploit that area while giving an inexperienced current quarterback setup a relatively manageable target.

We are not asking for an explosive receiving game.

At 33.5 yards, several short and intermediate completions can clear the threshold without requiring Chicago's passing offense to function at a high overall level.

Main Failure Path

Philadelphia's defensive structure can simply overwhelm Chicago before the Bears establish enough completed passing volume. A run-heavy game plan can also suppress Burden's opportunities. That uncertainty is why the prop remains a 1% position rather than something larger.

Pressure Response Middle of Field Target Concentration Prop Expression 1% Allocation
Portfolio Relationship

The two Monday positions can coexist.

Eagles -3 requires Philadelphia to create enough overall advantage to win by more than a field goal.

Burden Over 33.5 does not require Chicago's offense to succeed broadly. It only requires one receiving role to accumulate modest yardage.

In fact, there is a coherent game state where Philadelphia controls the game, Chicago is forced into a conservative passing response, and Burden becomes the preferred short-area outlet.

That makes the positions related, but not duplicate expressions of the same thesis.
Three Betting Days Remaining

It all comes down to this. Without turning it into a chase.

September begins Monday at exactly 100%. The actual account is approximately one dollar above where it started.

There is an obvious temptation to frame the next three days as: find the bets that make September profitable.

We have to be more disciplined than that.

The next three days do determine the final monthly result. But they do not receive different qualification standards because of it.

Monday produced 5%. Tuesday might produce 20%. It might produce zero.

The baseball postseason gives us a sport we now understand far better than we did in April. The NFL process is becoming more sophisticated every week.

The opportunity is not that we have three days to force a winning month. The opportunity is that we have three more independent boards to make good decisions.
Monday · September 28

100%. Two positions. Three days remaining.

The MLB regular season is complete. The NFL research continues to evolve. And September has somehow traveled through more than 170 settled decisions only to arrive almost exactly where it began.

Tonight, we do not need volume.

We need one side and one receiving prop to have earned permission.

The month is flat. The information is not.
