October 9 Daily Card: Back to 106%, But the Standard Does Not Move
Back above the starting line. The standard stays exactly where it was.
Thursday produced five winning tickets from seven positions.
Both losses came from the NFL portion of the portfolio, while the remaining
sports carried the night.
The standardized October bankroll now sits at 106%.
That is meaningful progress.
It is not permission to become more aggressive simply because recent results
have been favorable.
Five wins. Two losses. And useful information about concentration.
Both losing tickets lived inside the NFL portion of Thursday's card.
The remaining sports produced the five winners.
That does not mean football was bad or the other sports are suddenly solved.
It does reinforce a core portfolio lesson:
independent mechanisms matter when one concentrated game thesis fails.
Strong positive night.
Both losses came from the football cluster.
Above the October starting point.
Two positions. No need to manufacture a third.
Friday gives us one college football side and one NHL total. The board is small because the number of positions is an output of the evidence, not a publishing requirement.
BYU's defense gives the favorite a real separation mechanism.
BYU −10.5
The BYU case begins with defensive suppression. The Cougars are allowing only 14.3 points per game and approximately 75 rushing yards per game.
That run defense matters because it can force Iowa State into more obvious passing situations rather than allowing the Cyclones to control the game through balance.
Turnover creation provides the separation pathway. BYU has already demonstrated an ability to generate interceptions, while Iowa State quarterback Jaylen Raynor enters with four interceptions through five games.
This is also a home matchup in Provo with BYU unbeaten and the current market sitting around the same −10.5 threshold our original handicap addressed.
The important question is not simply whether BYU wins. The wager requires BYU to create margin. Defensive field position, turnover opportunities and rushing suppression are the mechanisms that can produce it.
BYU can suppress Iowa State's rushing function and force more difficult offensive conditions.
Turnovers and defensive field position can turn a BYU win into a double-digit margin.
Iowa State protects the football and keeps the game structurally competitive into the fourth quarter.
Six and a half gives the goalies room to matter.
Seattle Kraken / Detroit Red Wings Under 6.5
The handicap begins with the expectation of first-choice goaltending.
John Gibson is confirmed for Detroit. Seattle's Joey Daccord is the expected No. 1 option, although his start still requires final confirmation.
Gibson enters with a 2.38 goals-against average and .903 save percentage. Daccord has opened at approximately 2.64 and .911.
At 6.5, we do not need a playoff-style 2–1 game. A 3–2, 4–2 or 3–3 regulation environment can still keep the position alive depending on the final result.
The goalie assumption is part of the wager rather than background decoration. If Seattle unexpectedly changes away from Daccord, that is changed evidence.
Expected No. 1 goaltending raises the probability that ordinary offensive chances stay ordinary.
6.5 provides materially more room than asking for an Under at six or lower.
Daccord remains expected but not yet confirmed, making goalie confirmation part of the final evidence state.
A 106% bankroll is not permission to behave like 106% was guaranteed.
The October ledger has moved from 100% to 99%, back to 100%, down to 96%
and now up to 106%.
The process has to survive every one of those states.
Friday's board is dramatically smaller despite Thursday's strong result.
Both Thursday losses came from the NFL cluster, while independent mechanisms elsewhere protected the portfolio.
BYU −10.5 requires more than winner identification. Defensive suppression and turnover creation provide the separation argument.
The NHL Under is partly a goaltending thesis. Final goalie confirmation therefore matters.
The bankroll changed. The rules did not.
Thirty-six wins.
Twenty-six losses.
One hundred six percent.
None of those numbers earns Friday a single extra wager.
The next position still starts at zero and has to build its own case.
