October 4 Daily Card: NFL Sunday Drives a 32% Portfolio as the Dodgers Look for 2–0
NFL Sunday. 32% deployed.
Saturday finished 7–5.
MLB went 3–1.
The standardized October bankroll remains at
99% after a night that lost less than one percentage point overall.
Sunday now presents the largest portfolio of the young month:
14 NFL positions and one MLB postseason position across 32% of bankroll.
The board is large.
The standard does not change.
Seven wins. Five losses. The bankroll still moves backward.
Saturday produced a 7–5 record, including a
3–1 MLB postseason result.
Yet the standardized bankroll remains at 99%.
That is not a contradiction.
Odds and allocation determine financial impact.
Win percentage alone does not.
Twelve settled positions.
Strong opening Division Series result.
Remaining settled positions split evenly.
Less than one percentage point below October's reset.
Fifteen positions. 32% total allocation.
NFL Sunday accounts for 29% of today's bankroll allocation.
The Dodgers add another 3% in the National League Division Series.
No position is allowed to borrow conviction from the size of the slate.
Fourteen positions across ten game environments.
One Game 2 position on Los Angeles.
Fourteen positions. Different mechanisms. One portfolio.
Sunday's NFL card is not a collection of interchangeable opinions. Injury impact, current unit functionality, price, game state and market expression all play different roles across the board.
Indianapolis Colts −3
Washington enters with several offensive pieces unavailable, including Jayden Daniels and Samuel Cosmi, while Terry McLaurin has also carried uncertainty into the matchup.
Indianapolis has losses of its own, so this is not a one-direction injury story. The distinction is cumulative functionality. Washington's offensive disruption reaches more layers of the unit.
We also captured the field goal before the market moved beyond it. That makes the number part of the thesis rather than a detail beside it.
Washington's offensive functionality is materially compromised.
Indianapolis fails to convert the availability edge into offensive separation.
The captured −3 matters if later markets move through the field goal.
Houston Texans −2.5
Houston's record creates discomfort, but the defense continues to provide a legitimate floor while the offense regains an important functional piece.
Dallas brings secondary vulnerability into the matchup. More importantly, BrownBagBets captured Houston below the field goal.
This is not an endorsement of Houston's early offensive execution. It is a bet that the underlying structure is better than the surface record.
Giants Team Total Under 21.5
New York has scored only 18 combined points over its previous two games and now shifts to Jameis Winston after losing Jaxson Dart.
Arizona does not need to dominate defensively. The wager asks whether a compromised Giants offense can reach 22 points.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +4
Baker Mayfield being unavailable materially changes the original Tampa Bay offensive assumption. That is why this position receives only 1%.
The counterweight is Tampa Bay's defense, Green Bay's interior offensive-line absences and the fact that Tampa's defeats have remained competitive.
At +4 we are buying defensive resistance and the number, not pretending quarterback uncertainty disappeared.
Emeka Egbuka Over 38.5 Receiving Yards
Egbuka has already demonstrated enough target participation to make 38.5 a modest threshold.
The uncertainty is quarterback distribution. A rookie quarterback can change target depth and offensive rhythm.
Tampa Bay should still need established receivers to create manageable completions and yards after the catch.
Dalton Schultz Under 44.5 Receiving Yards
Schultz has finished below this threshold in two of Houston's first three games. His route involvement has also shown some recent decline.
The contradiction is Houston's weak rushing function. If the Texans are forced into greater passing volume, Schultz can regain opportunities.
We are therefore betting the threshold and recent usage, not claiming Schultz has disappeared from the offense.
Cincinnati Team Total Under 27.5
Jacksonville has allowed only 12 points per game through the opening weeks and has created enough disruption to interrupt otherwise functional offenses.
Cincinnati remains dangerous enough that this cannot become an automatic fade. The wager instead asks Jacksonville's defense to keep Cincinnati below four touchdowns.
Chase Brown Under 64.5 Rushing Yards
Jacksonville has consistently limited opposing rushing production, creating a direct matchup mechanism for this player market.
Chase Brown's current yardage profile sits near the posted threshold, so the wager is not built on an artificially high number.
The stronger case is that Jacksonville can suppress both efficiency and volume while Cincinnati retains the ability to move toward Joe Burrow when necessary.
Chicago Bears −3
Caleb Williams being unavailable fundamentally changes Chicago's offensive ceiling. The position therefore remains at only 1%.
New York is dealing with its own offensive absence, while Chicago still carries the stronger defensive and rushing environment.
This is controlled participation in a changed thesis, not an attempt to pretend the original assumptions survived intact.
Detroit Lions −3.5
Detroit has produced at least 31 points in each of its first three games, creating one of the stronger offensive functionality profiles on the slate.
Carolina has injury concerns of its own, while Detroit enters with comparatively manageable offensive availability.
Detroit's secondary keeps this from a larger allocation, but the broader current-team environment still favors the Lions.
Las Vegas Raiders 1H +3.5
Las Vegas enters unbeaten with a defense capable of creating turnovers and short fields.
The full-game concern is Kansas City's ability to adjust, especially against a Raiders offensive line missing an important interior piece.
The first-half market solves that problem. We are betting early competitiveness without requiring Las Vegas to survive sixty minutes of Patrick Mahomes adjustments.
Seattle Seahawks −6.5
Los Angeles enters winless with recurring execution problems, while Seattle returns an important defensive piece.
The Seahawks' previous loss was influenced heavily by turnovers rather than a broad collapse in underlying functionality.
The number matters. We want Seattle below seven.
Denver Broncos +3.5
Denver's defense has already demonstrated a credible disruption mechanism through sacks and takeaways.
San Francisco remains the stronger offensive team. The wager does not dispute that.
The extra half point above three gives Denver a path to cover without requiring offensive perfection or an outright victory.
Buffalo Bills −6.5
Buffalo enters unbeaten while New England's defense is missing important contributors at multiple levels.
That matters because the losses are not concentrated in one position group. They affect both coverage and the interior defensive structure.
Most importantly, BrownBagBets captured −6.5 rather than crossing the touchdown.
Los Angeles has not needed its full offense yet.
Los Angeles Dodgers ML
Game 1 offered an early reminder of how deep this Los Angeles lineup can become. Kyle Tucker homered. Teoscar Hernández homered. Max Muncy homered.
And the larger point is what was not required: Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman did not have to become the center of the offensive story.
That is the mechanism behind today's 3% position. Los Angeles can create offense through multiple independent sources, making it difficult for Atlanta to neutralize the lineup by solving one matchup.
Blake Snell supplies the pitching side of the case. His recent run suppression gives Los Angeles a legitimate path to controlling the early innings without asking the bullpen to absorb the entire game.
The moneyline is the cleaner expression today. We do not need another multi-run victory. We need Los Angeles to win.
Lineup depth plus recent Snell run suppression creates multiple independent paths to victory.
Atlanta receives quality pitching length and prevents the Dodgers' depth from creating sustained pressure.
Moneyline removes the unnecessary requirement for Los Angeles to win by multiple runs.
Fifteen tickets do not equal fifteen independent ideas.
Sunday's card contains several places where multiple wagers share the same game or underlying causal environment. Those relationships matter when evaluating the portfolio.
Texans −2.5 and Dalton Schultz Under 44.5 can work together if Houston wins through defense, broader offensive distribution and controlled passing volume. But they are not perfectly aligned. A high-volume Houston passing game routed through Schultz can help the side while damaging the player Under.
Buccaneers +4 and Egbuka Over 38.5 receiving yards share some positive structure. Tampa remaining competitive likely requires enough functional passing production to support Egbuka. But the prop can win independently even if Tampa fails to cover.
Bengals Team Total Under 27.5 and Chase Brown Under 64.5 both depend in part on Jacksonville disrupting Cincinnati's preferred offensive environment. That creates meaningful shared mechanism risk. If Jacksonville's defense does not transfer, both positions can become vulnerable together.
Diversification by ticket count is not diversification by mechanism.
No Sunday position exceeds 3%.
That is useful.
It is not enough by itself.
Twenty-nine percent of bankroll is exposed to one NFL slate.
Several wagers also share the same games and underlying mechanisms.
Total capital and causal concentration both have to be governed.
Sunday football dominates the portfolio and therefore dominates today's variance.
The Dodgers position is independent from the NFL board but still adds to total same-day exposure.
Houston, Tampa Bay and Cincinnati require correlation awareness rather than ticket-by-ticket thinking.
Even today's strongest positions stop at 3%, preventing one opinion from dominating the bankroll.
The number is still part of every wager.
Sunday markets move quickly.
Injury news, quarterback availability and public NFL volume can materially change
prices in a short period.
The numbers shown on this page are BrownBagBets'
recorded entry prices.
The field goal matters. A materially worse number requires reassessment.
Staying below three is part of the original permission.
The wager was approved below seven. Crossing seven materially changes the decision.
The half point below a touchdown is part of the thesis, not incidental formatting.
The biggest card should require the most discipline.
A fifteen-position Sunday can easily turn into a list of opinions. BrownBagBets uses the opposite approach. The more capital placed into the market, the more important structure becomes.
Tampa Bay and Chicago both remain smaller because quarterback changes weaken the original assumptions.
Raiders first half, Giants team total and the player props isolate specific mechanisms rather than forcing full-game sides.
−2.5, +3.5 and −6.5 are not cosmetic differences. They affect permission and eventual review.
Tonight's record will settle tickets. The AAR will determine whether the mechanisms and allocations deserved their outcomes.
How to read today's 32% portfolio.
Win-loss record and bankroll movement are different measurements. Odds and wager allocation determine financial impact. A winning record can still produce a small bankroll decline.
No. The exposure is distributed across fifteen wagers, two sports and multiple market types. But BrownBagBets still evaluates aggregate exposure and shared causal mechanisms.
Different markets can express different parts of a handicap. They are still evaluated for overlap and shared failure paths before being treated as separate portfolio positions.
Key numbers materially affect football outcomes. A wager approved below seven may no longer deserve the same permission once the market crosses that threshold.
Today's thesis is that Los Angeles has multiple paths to win. We do not need margin to express that edge, so the moneyline removes an unnecessary condition.
Not automatically. Every price shown is BrownBagBets' recorded entry. Material movement requires a new decision.
99% enters Sunday. Thirty-two percent goes to work.
Fifteen positions now have to stand on their own evidence.
Some will win.
Some will lose.
The job afterward is not simply counting green and red tickets.
It is determining which mechanisms transferred, which assumptions failed,
whether the prices remained correct and whether 32% of exposure behaved
like the diversified portfolio it appeared to be.
